ISLAMABAD Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam has formally expressed Tehran’s gratitude to Pakistan for its decisive vote against an anti-Iran resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council, framing it as a significant act of diplomatic solidarity.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ambassador Moghadam praised Pakistan for taking a “principled stand” by opposing what he termed an “unfair resolution” targeting Iran. He specifically commended the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for their role in this diplomatic move.
The ambassador highlighted that Pakistan’s decision to demand a vote on the resolution was a “bold step.” He asserted that the move contributed to the failure of what he described as a sustained campaign against Iran. “The 12-day aggression, externally supported unrest and attempts to misuse international institutions failed,” Moghadam stated, adding that “political and unjustified measures against Iran faced their third consecutive failure.”
The Iranian envoy positioned Pakistan’s vote as a reflection of its core foreign policy values. “Pakistan’s support is a reflection of its commitment to justice, human rights, multilateralism and national sovereignty,” he said.
Concluding with a pledge of lasting appreciation, Ambassador Moghadam emphasized, “Iran will always remember this principled and consistent support with great appreciation.” The statement underscores a moment of reinforced bilateral ties between the two neighbors, aligning them against what they perceive as unjustified multilateral pressure, following a period of strained relations earlier this year. The praise signals Iran’s intent to deepen diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan on international platforms.
