Wheat prices surge across Punjab

LAHORE: Wheat prices have been increased by Rs 700 across Punjab, including Lahore, over a short period. Within the last ten days, the price per maund has risen from Rs 3,700 to Rs 4,400.

In Rawalpindi, wheat prices have climbed as high as Rs 4,800 per maund, while Lahore has recorded a rate of Rs 4,450.

In Gujranwala and Gujrat, wheat is being sold at Rs 4,500 per maund. Prices in Multan have reached Rs 4,450, whereas Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan are seeing rates of up to Rs 4,400.

Wheat prices in Islamabad have also increased to Rs 4,400 per maund.

Meanwhile, 10kg and 20kg subsidized flour bags have become scarce in several areas of Lahore.

However, the Food Department has denied any shortage, stating that sufficient quantities of flour are available in the market.

According to the department, 10kg and 20kg flour bags are easily available at retail outlets.

Sources revealed that the price of a 15kg flour bag, which was previously available for Rs 1,500, is now being sold for Rs 1,750.

The Central Chairman of the Flour Mills Association has attributed the rising prices and perceived shortage to the increasing cost of wheat.
