WASHINGTON: The United States has urged its citizens to leave Iran, citing growing unrest across the country.
The US virtual embassy in Iran said protests nationwide are intensifying and could turn violent.
In a security alert, the embassy advised American citizens to depart Iran if possible.
It recommended using land routes through Armenia or Turkey and urged travelers to make plans that do not rely on US government assistance.
The embassy said Americans who choose to remain in Iran should stay indoors in a secure location and avoid all protest activity.
It advised them to stock up on food, water, medicines, and other essential supplies.
Meanwhile, senior aides led by US Vice President JD Vance have urged President Donald Trump to give diplomacy a chance before launching any strike on Iran.
US media reported that the White House had been considering Iran’s offer for talks on its nuclear program.
At the same time, Trump appeared to be weighing approval for possible military action against Tehran.
Separately, Trump announced new economic penalties on Iran.
