Gas leak causes massive incidents in several cities

LAHORE: A gas leak caused an explosion near Attari Darbar in Lahore, leaving eight people injured.

According to Rescue officials, the blast occurred inside a house located near Attari Darbar on Ferozepur Road due to a gas leakage.

The explosion triggered a fire, as a heater was turned on in a room filled with leaked gas. As a result, eight people sustained burn injuries and were shifted to General Hospital for treatment.

A similar incident took place in the Mansoor Abad area in Faisalbad where gas-leakage caused a blast injuring five family members.

In a separate incident, a cylinder explosion occurred during refilling in Chak Shafee, Pakpattan, blowing off the shop’s roof and damaging nearby electricity wires.

A fire also broke out in the shop, which was later brought under control by rescue teams.

It is worth mentioning that just a day earlier, a gas leak explosion in Islamabad turned a wedding ceremony into a tragedy, killing eight people, including the bride and groom.

Over the past three years, 488 gas cylinder and gas leak explosions have been reported in Punjab alone, resulting in the loss of 25 lives.

Despite this, unsafe storage and illegal refilling of gas cylinders continue in several areas due to negligence by the concerned authorities.

Meanwhile, the preliminary investigation report into the explosion in Sector G-7, Islamabad, has been completed, and all deceased victims have been laid to rest.

Initial findings suggest that the explosion was caused by a gas leak. The report states that three houses were completely destroyed, while two others were partially damaged.

The incident claimed eight lives and left 11 people injured, with fatalities caused by severe burns and victims being trapped under debris. Samples of gas pipelines and connections have also been collected from the site.

The explosion occurred during a wedding event, and a total of 19 people were rescued from the rubble, including the bride and groom among the deceased.

In another tragic incident, an unknown vehicle struck two women, killing one and critically injuring the other.

The accident took place near the GT Road Bypass as the two women, who were mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, were crossing the road. A speeding car hit them and fled the scene.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the site after receiving information about the accident.

One woman died on the spot, while the injured woman was shifted to a hospital, where her condition remains critical.

Rescue sources said both women were residents of Faisal Town, Kamonki. Police have launched an investigation and started a search for the driver, assuring that the suspect will be arrested soon and legal action will be taken.
