LAHORE: The preparations for the players’ draft of the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have entered a key phase following the successful auction of two new franchises.
The PSL management has formally begun planning for the draft, which is expected to take place on January 30. Furthermore, the league administration aims to finalize all pending arrangements ahead of the draft to ensure a smooth and timely process.
The PSL draft is a crucial step in shaping team squads ahead of the new season, especially as the league expands to include eight teams for the first time.
The addition of two new franchises marks a historic moment for the tournament, reflecting its growing commercial value and popularity both domestically and internationally. In this regard, the draft is likely to be held during a one-day break in the T20 International series between Pakistan and Australia.
This timing would allow key stakeholders to participate without disrupting international cricket commitments. Moreover, all eight franchise representatives, including owners, coaches, and team officials, are expected to attend the draft.
The presence will be vital as teams finalize player selections, retention strategies, and overall squad balance for the upcoming season.
The PSL 11th edition will feature the six existing franchises—Lahore Qalandars, Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, and Multan Sultans, alongside two newly added teams from Sialkot and Hyderabad.
The inclusion of these cities is seen as a strategic move to broaden the league’s footprint and strengthen regional representation. Recently, the sale of the new franchises set new financial benchmarks for the league, further mentioning PSL’s strong market appeal.
The PSL authorities are working closely with stakeholders to ensure transparency and efficiency throughout the draft process.
