Hamas Confirms Death of Al-Qassam Spokesperson Abu Obeida

GAZA: Hamas has confirmed that Abu Obeida, the spokesperson of its armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, has been killed during fighting with Israeli forces this year.

The group said Abu Obeida and Hamas’s Gaza chief Mohammed Sinwar died in separate Israeli military operations amid the ongoing war in Gaza.

According to a Hamas statement, Israeli air strikes wounded Abu Obeida during bombardment in August. He later died of his injuries while undergoing medical treatment. Hamas described his death as a direct result of Israeli military action.

Israel had earlier claimed in May that it killed Mohammed Sinwar, the younger brother of former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Three months later, Israeli officials also announced the killing of Abu Obeida.

Abu Obeida served as one of Hamas’s most prominent spokesmen. He regularly issued statements on battlefield developments, ceasefire violations, and prisoner exchange talks, particularly during a brief truce that Israel later ended.

Mohammed Sinwar and Abu Obeida are among several senior Hamas figures whose deaths Israel has confirmed over the past two years.

Those killed include former political chief Yahya Sinwar, military commander Mohammed Deif, and senior political leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Tehran, according to Hamas.
