GARHI KHUDA BAKSH: The President Asif Ali Zardari confirmed Pakistan’s resolve to safeguard its sovereignty and unity, stating that the country remains committed to peace but is fully prepared to defend itself against any external aggression.
Furthermore, he was addressing a large public gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on the occasion of the 18th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, President Zardari recalled the difficult moment of her assassination, describing it as a day that could have divided the nation.
He said that instead of allowing discord, he raised the slogan of “Pakistan Khappay,” emphasizing national unity in accordance with Benazir Bhutto’s vision.
Meanwhile. the president said Pakistan would endure for generations, crediting the armed forces for responding firmly and responsibly to challenges.
He noted that military had demonstrated professionalism and courage, making it clear that war is not a game and that the country possesses the capability and resolve to defend itself. So far, President Zardari stressed that Pakistan does not seek conflict but will respond decisively if war is imposed.
He said the nation’s leadership, armed forces, and people stand united, adding that Pakistan’s defense institutions are prepared to make any sacrifice required to protect the country. He praised the Pakistan Air Force and the armed forces for their restraint and discipline, stating that Pakistan chose responsibility over escalation.
In such a case, the president said he was advised during the May conflict to move to a bunker for safety but declined, stating that life and death are ultimately in God’s hands and that he remains prepared to make any sacrifice for the country.
He added that if the need arises again, he is ready to commit his life and resources for the protection of Pakistan and its people. Moreover, President Zardari emphasized that Pakistan’s struggle is not driven by aggression but by self-respect and defense.
He said the nation is not fond of war, but if provoked, it will respond firmly and effectively. He reasserted that Pakistan’s future generations would also stand ready to defend the country against any threat.
