Police repel militant attack on Bannu checkpoint

BANNU: Police said on Friday they repelled an overnight militant attack on a checkpoint in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, injuring five personnel in an area that has seen a sharp rise in militant violence since Afghan Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.

Officials said that militants attacked a police checkpost  in Shaikh Landak area located within the Havaid police jurisdiction of Bannu.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police spokesperson said the attackers belonged to the India proxy Fitna-tul-Khawarij.

Police returned fire and repelled the assault. According to the spokesperson, the militants suffered “heavy losses,” and several were believed to be killed or wounded.

The injured officers were moved to a hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Following the attack, additional police units rushed to the scene on the instructions of DIG Bannu Sajjad Khan. DPO Bannu Yasir Afridi led the reinforcement teams and launched a search operation in the area.

Senior officials praised the officers for pushing back the assault. They said Bannu Police remain ready to defend the country and will continue operations until terrorism is eliminated.

Pakistan’s representative, Usman Jadoon, stated that armed groups have been launching attacks on Pakistan from Afghan territory, and that Pakistani forces are actively countering ISIS-K, TTP, BLA, and the Majeed Brigade.

China also urged the UN sanctions committee to approve the inclusion of the BLA and the Majeed Brigade in the list of banned entities.

It is worth mentioning that the USA and UK have already declared BLA and Majeed Brigade as the global terrorists on 11th August, the day when the Indian-sponsored militants and the Indian proxies celebrate a Freedom Day in Balochistan.

The US Foreign office had said the BLA and Majeed Brigade have been involved in major military attacks in Pakistan. The U.S foreign office has said that
