Ceasefire accepted after Taliban regrets Chaman Border clash

Pakistan responds to Afghanistan's hostiltiy or border

QUETTA: A fragile ceasefire between Pakistani and Afghan Taliban forces at the crucial Chaman border crossing collapsed overnight, leading to a fresh exchange of heavy fire and reported casualties. The incident has dramatically escalated tensions along the volatile frontier.

According to reliable sources reporting to  Burak Baloch, the skirmish began when Taliban forces opened “unprovoked fire” towards the Pakistani side. In response, Pakistani security forces launched what is described as a “strong, effective, and forceful counteraction.” Initial reports indicate that the engagement resulted in heavy casualties on the Afghan side, with several Taliban checkposts sustaining significant damage. Details regarding Pakistani casualties, if any, remain unclear.

This clash comes shortly after a ceasefire was reportedly requested by the Afghan Taliban following what they termed “heavy retaliationary assault” from Pakistan in response to prior “Afghanistan Aggression.” The immediate ceasefire was short-lived, underscoring the persistent volatility in the area. Babar Yousafzai, former spokesperson for the Balochistan government, confirmed that Pakistani forces are now standing alert and reinforced along the border.

The exchange occurs against a backdrop of worsening diplomatic relations. The Taliban-led government in Kabul has adopted an increasingly provocative stance towards Islamabad in recent months, accusing it of interference and harboring opposition groups. Tonight’s violence represents a dangerous militarization of those political grievances, raising fears of a broader conflict. Security remains on high alert as authorities await further developments.
