KHUZDAR: In a surprise inspection that exposed severe administrative neglect, Mir Younis Aziz Zehri, the Leader of the Opposition in the Balochistan Assembly, visited the Civil Hospital in Nal on Wednesday , finding a majority of its staff absent.

The MPA arrived unannounced and reviewed the hospital register, discovering that most medical officers and other personnel were not present at their posts. Expressing grave concern, Zehri announced immediate legal action against the absent staff. He warned that such negligence, which forces patients to travel to Khuzdar or other cities for basic care, costs lives and will no longer be tolerated.

“The public faces serious problems due to the absence of staff… which is proof of extreme irresponsibility,” Zehri stated. He issued a strict warning that from now on, any doctor or staff member found absent would face consequences without concession. The hospital serves a large catchment area, including the populations of Nal, Girisha, Koda, and Kodasak.

A large crowd of local residents accompanied Zehri during the visit, voicing their frustrations over the chronic absenteeism that complicates medical emergencies. The community welcomed the inspection, with many stating it gave them hope that their elected representatives were attentive to their plight. Zehri assured them that ensuring the presence of medical staff was a fundamental step toward restoring basic health facilities for the area.

Meanwhile the inaugural session of the 11th National Finance Commission (NFC) convenes today, with the Balochistan government poised to present its financial challenges for the new national resource distribution award. Provincial authorities have finalized preparations to advocate for a greater share, citing severe fiscal strain.

Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Noshirwani confirmed this initial meeting will focus on outlining Balochistan’s financial position. He indicated a working group would be formed for subsequent negotiations. A key voice in the deliberations, Balochistan’s non-official NFC member Mahfouz Ali Khan, emphasized the province’s unique burdens. He stated the province’s case would center on rising poverty, the economic cost of the war on terrorism, and chronic insecurity hampering trade and social development.
