QUETTA: The district administration of Quetta has launched a decisive crackdown to address the severe and persistent issue of low gas pressure plaguing the city. In a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Quetta, Mehrullah Badini, a comprehensive strategy was formulated to tackle the root cause of the problem: the widespread illegal use of gas compressors.
The meeting, attended by all Assistant Commissioners of Quetta and representatives of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), identified the increasing use of compressors in homes and markets as the primary reason for the crippling drop in gas pressure. This illegal practice, which unfairly siphons off supply, has left many citizens without gas, especially during the critical winter cooking hours, severely disrupting daily household affairs.
DC Mehrullah Badini issued firm directives for an immediate and vigorous campaign against the “compressor mafia.” He ordered all Assistant Commissioners to form special teams in their respective areas to lead a sustained crackdown against those involved in the sale, installation, and use of these illegal devices. Simultaneously, the SSGC was instructed to activate its field teams and collaborate closely with the administration to formulate a procedure for joint operations.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment, DC Badini clarified that ensuring a fair gas supply to all citizens is a top priority. He announced a strict zero-tolerance policy against the compressor mafia, signaling the administration’s resolve to restore gas pressure and provide relief to the public. This coordinated effort between the district administration and SSGC marks a significant step towards resolving the chronic gas crisis that has exacerbated the hardships faced by Quetta’s residents during the winter season.
Meanwhile in a high-level meeting of the leadership and members of all coalition parties was held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta, where key political and governance matters were discussed in detail.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, and Ghazala Gola.
Parliamentary leaders and senior representatives from coalition parties were also present, including Pakistan Muslim League leader Mir Saleem Khan Khoso, Pakistan People’s Party provincial president Sardar Umar Gorgage, Balochistan Awami Party parliamentary leader Nawabzada Tariq Magsi, Mir Sadiq Sanjrani, and Awami National Party representative Engineer Zamark Khan Achakzai.
