CHAGAI: The Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC), operated under Barrick Mining Corporation, organized a Local Supplier Outreach event in Nokundi aimed at strengthening engagement with vendors and businesses from District Chagai.
The initiative is part of RDMC’s long-term commitment to building a strong, inclusive, and competitive local supply chain for one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper and gold deposits.
Led by RDMC’s supply chain team, the session was attended by more than 70 local companies and business representatives, who were briefed on pre-qualification criteria, procurement processes, and practical requirements for working with the company.
The forum also allowed participants to raise questions, discuss concerns, and explore future partnership opportunities.
Speaking at the event, Ryan Mitchell, General Manager of the Reko Diq Project, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to promoting broad-based economic growth by integrating more local businesses into the supply chain.
He stated that RDMC prioritizes sourcing goods and services locally whenever suppliers meet the company’s standards and commercial needs.
He added that RDMC is investing in training and capacity building to enhance the capabilities of local entrepreneurs so that more procurement can be carried out within Chagai and Balochistan.
Explaining RDMC’s initiatives for boosting local procurement, Abdul Hafeez Baloch, Purchasing Specialist, noted that the event reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to regional economic development.
During 2025, RDMC has already awarded contracts worth PKR 2,040 million (USD 7.2M) to suppliers in District Chagai and PKR 3,796.5 million (USD 13.4M) to suppliers across Balochistan.
He said RDMC aims to further increase these figures as the project progresses, with a focus on working with qualified vendors who meet technical, safety, and ethical standards.
The event also included briefings for local suppliers on the project’s scope, operational principles, procurement strategy, tax requirements, community development programs, employment policies, and partnership opportunities during the construction and operational phases.
RDMC, a joint venture with the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Balochistan, remains committed to making Reko Diq a model of responsible mining and inclusive economic growth.
As the project advances, it is expected to create jobs, enhance skills, and significantly boost local procurement bringing transformative economic benefits to the region.
