Islamabad suicide blast a ‘wake-up call’ for nation: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif warned that the today’s Islamabad suicide attack outside the Judicial Complex is a stark reminder that the country is at war, and the threat extends beyond the borders.

Khwaja Aisf took to social media platform X to condemn the attack and said that while the Pakistan Army is actively fighting in Afghanistan-Pakistan border regions and remote areas of Balochistan, the blast in Islamabad demonstrates that the entire nation faces the dangers of terrorism. “The Pakistan Army sacrifices daily to protect citizens and maintain security across the country,” he added.

The minister stressed that relying on successful negotiations with Kabul authorities to prevent terrorism in Pakistan would be futile. “The Kabul government has the capacity to stop terrorist activities on its soil, but bringing attacks to Islamabad sends a direct message,” he said.

He expressed confidence in Pakistan’s ability to respond decisively, noting that the country has the strength to counter such threats and protect its citizens.

Islamabad suicide blast kills 12

Earlier today, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that at least 12 people were martyred and 27 others injured in a suicide blast outside the Islamabad Judicial Complex on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media after visiting the blast site, Naqvi said the explosion occurred at 12:39 pm when a suicide attacker attempted to enter the complex but failed to reach his target. “The attacker planned to carry out the explosion inside the complex, but when he couldn’t get in, he detonated himself near a police vehicle,” he stated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to ensure the best medical care for the injured, the minister added.
