Four illegal petrol pumps sealed, eight arrested in Quetta

Petrol crisis worsens across multiple districts in Balochistan

QUETTA: The district administration has intensified its crackdown on regulatory violations, conducting joint operations across Sariab, Kuchlak, City, and Saddar subdivisions.

During the operations, officials inspected 48 shops for price control violations, resulting in two individuals being jailed and fines totaling Rs 49,000.

The campaign also targeted illegal  petrol pumps, leading to the sealing of four units, the arrest of three individuals, and the confiscation of their equipment. Simultaneously, the crackdown on banned plastic bags saw 25 shops inspected, three people arrested, and fines of Rs 15,000 imposed. Approximately 71 kilograms of the prohibited bags were seized.

The district administration affirmed that these actions against profiteers, illegal petrol pumps, and plastic bag vendors will continue without leniency.

In a separate development Quetta International Airport as the first direct flight between Quetta and Zahedan was officially launched on Thursday night. The ceremony marked a major milestone in strengthening regional air links between Pakistan and Iran.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Governor Balochistan said the new connection will pave the way for expanding flight operations further to Turkey and Central Asia. “Pakistan and Iran are two powerful Muslim nations of the region — one defeated India, and the other humbled Israel,” he remarked, highlighting the growing cooperation between the two countries.

The event was attended by Iranian Consul General Mohammad Karimi Toudeshki, Provincial Health Minister Bakht Mohammad Kakar, Parliamentary Secretary Haji Barkat Rind, Rabia Khwaja Khail, and representatives of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce.
