QUETTA: A senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has publicly confirmed a power-sharing agreement with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which will see the chief minister’s position in Balochistan change hands in two and a half years.
Provincial Minister Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran stated that the two parties made this deal when they agreed to form a coalition government after the general elections. According to the arrangement, the PML-N will assume the role of chief minister for the latter half of the five-year term.
Mr. Khetran clarified that the agreement also covers the tenure of other senior positions, including the Chairman of the Senate and the Speakers of the National and Balochistan Assemblies. However, he explicitly stated that the deal did not involve a trade-off where the PPP’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would become the Prime Minister at the federal level in exchange.
When asked who would become the next chief minister, the PML-N leader said that the decision would be made by the party’s central leadership when the time comes.
Meanwhile a senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader has firmly denied the existence of any power-sharing agreement with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Balochistan, asserting that the provincial government will serve its full five-year term.
