QUETTA: The Balochistan government has launched a major digital transformation in its agricultural sector to modernise revenue systems and strengthen support for farmers.
The Board of Revenue organised a workshop to mark what officials described as the beginning of a new era in agricultural modernization. The session focused on expanding farmers’ access to credit, simplifying tax payments, and integrating digital tools to increase productivity and provincial revenue.
Officials unveiled several initiatives to align Balochistan’s agriculture with modern standards. A newly launched mobile application now allows farmers to pay income tax quickly and conveniently. The government, in partnership with Habib Bank Limited, has also introduced new mechanisms to provide farmers with easier access to loans.
The provincial administration will implement a streamlined system to simplify credit applications and approvals, removing bureaucratic obstacles.
Participants stressed that these reforms are essential to unlocking the full potential of Balochistan’s agriculture sector, often called the “fruit basket of Pakistan.” They said the digital overhaul will improve farmers’ livelihoods and significantly increase provincial revenue.
“These steps will not only uplift our farmers but also benefit the broader population,” officials said.
At the end of the workshop, Revenue Minister Mir Asim Kurd Gello and Senior Member Qamar Dashti distributed certificates of appreciation to newly appointed personnel, acknowledging their commitment to the reform agenda.
Participants lauded the government’s efforts, saying the initiatives mark a transformative moment for agriculture in Balochistan—one that promises long-term prosperity for farmers and citizens alike.
This month, Member of the Provincial Assembly, Asghar Tareen, stated that many farmers in Balochistan have not yet received the allocated funds for agricultural solarisation.
He emphasised that the federal government has not provided the full amount for the solarization initiative. Tareen urged that no bill should be passed until the complete funds are received.
Despite these concerns, the Balochistan Assembly went ahead and approved the bill related to agricultural solarization and measures to prevent electricity theft.
