QUETTA: The Balochistan Health Department has taken over a semi-government children’s hospital in Quetta following approval from the provincial government.
According to the department, Chief Executive Officer of the Children’s Hospital, Professor Abdullah Jaffar, formally handed over charge to Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Quetta, Dr. Saleem Abro.
The Health Department has assumed control of the hospital’s property, equipment, machinery, and staff. Officials said the transfer was carried out under directions from the Balochistan High Court and approval of the provincial cabinet.
Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan has allocated Rs140 million to improve the hospital’s infrastructure and make it fully operational.
Dr. Saleem Abro said the administration aims to develop a state-of-the-art children’s hospital equipped with modern medical facilities. He expressed confidence that the new reforms will help restore the hospital’s functionality in a short time and enable it to serve not only Quetta but also other parts of Balochistan.
Last week, Balochistan Governor Jafar Khan Mandokhel had announced establishment of a 2,000-bed, state-of-the-art hospital in the provincial capital Quetta.
The Governor made the announcement while addressing a seminar on breast cancer awareness, organised by BETUMS University in collaboration with the World Health Organization.
He noted that the city, which acts as the primary medical hub for the entire province, is currently served by only two or three major hospitals, a situation he described as insufficient for its vast population. “The dire need for a massive expansion in healthcare is evident,” Governor Mandokhel stated. “This initiative will transform the healthcare landscape of Quetta.”
