KARACHI: A senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader has firmly denied the existence of any power-sharing arrangement with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Balochistan, asserting that the provincial government will serve its full five-year term.
The statement was made by Mir Sadiq Imrani, a member of the PPP’s Central Executive Committee and the Provincial Minister for Irrigation, during a meeting with party workers at his Karachi residence on Sunday.
Mr Imrani revealed that the party’s Central Executive Committee is scheduled to convene again in a month’s time. He also voiced criticism towards the federal government, accusing it of failing to deliver on promises made to Punjab and Balochistan. He further called for greater transparency, urging the government to take “the parliament, cabinet, and the people into confidence” on critical decisions concerning the province’s coastal and river resources.
Reflecting on the party’s history, the minister characterised the 2007 Karsaz tragedy—in which 200 PPP activists were killed—as a “heartbreaking incident” and a major assault on the nation’s peace and democracy. He stated that the PPP has consistently waged a struggle against forces hostile to democratic principles.
“Our politics is guided by the ideological legacy and struggle of our leaders, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto,” Mr Imrani said. “We believe in the politics of respect and are committed to upholding the dignity of Balochistan.”

Concluding with a firm stance on security, he vowed that the PPP would not abandon the people of Balochistan in the face of terrorism. “We were in the field against terrorism yesterday, and we remain in the field today. We cannot and will not leave the oppressed people to stand alone,” he affirmed.
