QUETTA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested 12 people for trying to illegally leave Pakistan by sea from the coastal town of Jiwani in Balochistan.
In an operation on Thursday, officials caught five Afghan nationals and seven Pakistani citizens. The Pakistani citizens were from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During initial questioning, the group admitted they were trying to reach Iran by boat, with the final goal of moving on to other countries. The FIA has registered a case against them for human smuggling.
The agency also reported that it has been actively cracking down on this crime. In just the last month, FIA’s Balochistan zone has registered 42 cases and arrested 265 people, including 15 foreign nationals, for similar offenses. They have promised to continue these operations without discrimination.
