Afghanistan made a powerful statement to begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign, securing a massive 94-run victory over Hong Kong in their Group B opener in Abu Dhabi.

Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Afghanistan put on a strong batting display. They posted a formidable total of 188 runs in their 20 overs. The innings was powered by a brilliant unbeaten knock of 73 runs from Siddiqullah Atal and a explosive 53 runs off just 21 balls from Azmatullah Omarzai. Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi provided valuable support with a quick 33 runs.

In response, Hong Kong’s batting lineup had no answer for Afghanistan’s disciplined bowling attack. The team collapsed, managing only 94 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their full 20 overs. Only batsman Babar Hayat offered any significant resistance, scoring 39 runs. No other player from Hong Kong reached double figures.

The Afghan bowlers shared the wickets effectively, with Gulbadin Naib and Fazalhaq Farooqi taking two wickets each. Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmed also chipped in with one wicket apiece.

This commanding win not only earns Afghanistan two crucial points but also serves a strong warning to other teams in the tournament about their serious title ambitions.
