ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir and his Iranian counterpart, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, reasserted their commitment to eradicating terrorism in order to strengthen security along the nearly 900-kilometre-long Pakistan-Iran border.
As per the official statement issued by the Iranian Embassy, the two military leaders held a telephonic conversation during which they underlined the urgent need for joint action against terrorist groups threatening peace and stability in the border regions.
“The two sides are ready to eradicate terrorism to secure common borderlines,” the statement said.
In this sense, Iranian state news agency IRNA quoted Gen Mousavi as saying that Tehran was prepared to eliminate terrorist movements that had recently increased along the shared frontier. He called for closer cooperation to address the threat and ensure stability for border communities.
Furthermore, Field Marshal Munir echoed these views, stressing that Pakistan and Iran must “jointly turn the Pakistan-Iran border into a border of friendship, brotherhood, and economic development.”
He also expressed condolences for the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province.
Moreover, Gen Mousavi reciprocated the gesture by offering sympathy for flood-affected families in Pakistan, assuring that “Iran would proudly provide any assistance within its power to dear brothers in Pakistan.” He further commended Pakistan’s support for Iran during the recent 12-day conflict with Israel, describing bilateral relations as increasingly cooperative and multi-dimensional.

In this regard, the renewed commitment follows President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan earlier this month, during which he focused on that trade and economic progress could only be realised through peace, stability, and security along the border.
