Three miners lose lives in Degari coal mine accident

QUETTA: There was a tragic incident at a coal mine in Degari claimed the lives of three miners, underlining once again the dangerous conditions faced by workers in Balochistan’s mining sector.

Furthermore, the accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. In this sense, Chief Inspector of Mines, Ghani Baloch, stated that preliminary investigations suggested the deaths were caused by the presence of toxic gas inside the mine.

The deceased miners, who come from Quetta’s Hazara Town and Alamdar Road areas, had entered the mine for routine work when the accident took place. In this regard, Balochistan is home to some of Pakistan’s richest coal reserves, and thousands of workers depend on the mining industry for their livelihood. 

However, mining accidents are a recurring tragedy in the province, often caused by gas explosions, collapses, or inadequate safety standards. Furthermore, Chief Inspector Ghani Baloch focused on the fact that the government takes these accidents seriously and assured that a detailed investigation will be carried out.
