RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army Spokesperson, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, on Thursday rejected media reports claiming that Field Marshal Asim Munir had sought an apology from anyone in connection with the May 9 riots.
The Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued the clarification during talks with media persons after attending a function in Islamabad.
His rebuttal comes after senior journalist and columnist Sohail Warraich, associated with Jang group, reported that an offer had been made to PTI founder Imran Khan to reconcile with the establishment by apologizing to the military over the May 9 riots.
He said that the Field Marshal had not given any interview to anyone. Sohail Warraich was among the hundreds who attended the function in Brussels.
The army spokesperson said the reports were “baseless” and misrepresented the Field Marshal’s remarks at a recent function in Brussels.
“May 9 is a case of the entire nation,” the spokesperson said, adding that the army chief had not mentioned Imran Khan or linked him to any apology. He made no political statement in Brussels, he clarified.
The ISPR stressed that the events of May 9, which saw attacks on military and state installations, remain a matter of national concern and accountability.
