Two killed, 115 houses damaged as torrential rains hit Balochistan

QUETTA: Heavy rains lashed several parts of Balochistan in the past 24 hours, killing two people and causing widespread damage. Ziarat, Khuzdar, Surab, Jhal Magsi, Harnai, and Kalat were among the affected districts.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a woman and a child died in Harnai when the roof of their house collapsed. Another woman was injured in the incident.

In Harnai’s Gachina area, three people were swept away by flash floods. Rescue teams saved two, while the search continues for a missing child.

Surab reported the heaviest damage. More than 115 houses were destroyed or damaged by torrential rain.

The National Highway Authority said downpours in Kachhi blocked the Quetta-Sibi highway. Floodwaters in the Bolan River also damaged the Bibi Nani Bridge. Officials advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel until repairs are complete.

Authorities have placed all departments on high alert amid fears of further flooding in streams and seasonal rivers.

In Dera Bugti, Frontier Corps (FC) personnel assisted residents during the downpour, helping stranded families and providing emergency relief.
