ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s Special Committee on Gender Mainstreaming showed serious concern over the delay in submission of challan by the Balochistan Police in the recent honour killing case of Bano Bibi and Ehsan Ullah.
In this sense, last month, a video showing the killing of the couple went viral on social media, sparking outrage across the country. The Balochistan government later announced that at least 11 suspects had been arrested, with further operations underway to apprehend others involved.
During the committee’s 13th meeting, the Additional Inspector General of Balochistan Police informed members that the case was reported nearly 30–40 days after the incident. He said the victims, who had contracted a love marriage, were allegedly shot dead on the orders of a tribal jirga prior to Eid ul Adha.
The committee noted with concern that no application had been filed by relatives or locals when the incident occurred. It was only after the video surfaced online that the Balochistan government registered a terrorism case.
The committee also expressed alarm over the increasing number of honour-based killings in the country. Members emphasised that weak enforcement of the 2016 law against such crimes continues to hinder justice and deterrence.

In addition, the committee reviewed a separate case of marital violence in Karachi. The Sindh IGP briefed members about the death of a 19-year-old Hindu woman, Shanti, who reportedly fell into a coma and later died in July 2025 after being subjected to severe sexual violence by her husband.
