Audit report reveals 3.41 billion irregularities in Balochistan’s Local Government Department

QUETTA: Audit report unearthed massive irregularities worth over 3.41 billion rupees in Balochistan’s Local Government Department during the last financial year.

According to the report, issued by the Auditor General of Pakistan for the 2024-25 fiscal year, highlighted unauthorized expenses exceeding PKR 29 crore and expenditures of PKR 70 crore made without proper approval.

Moreover, the local government department failed to provide audit teams with records worth 3.76 crore rupees. Delays in auctioning assets and failure to increase rental income resulted in a loss of approximately 77.49 crore rupees.

The Local Government Department also suffered a revenue shortfall of 79.29 crore rupees during the year.

Furthermore, an overpayment of 30.26 crore rupees was made on development projects due to inflated rates. The audit also identified misuse of funds amounting to 2.53 crore, while 80 lakh rupees was withdrawn from accounts without proper authorization.

The Auditor General’s report has been submitted to the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan and referred to the Public Accounts Committee for further investigation.
