QUETTA: The residents of Quetta and Turbat districts are still waiting to receive the new green and pink buses promised by the Balochistan government.
Earlier the provincial government had announced that 21 new buses including green and pink ones would soon start running in the Quetta and Turbat cities to improve the traveling facilities in these districts, but still no practical has been in this regard.
Secretary of Transport, Balochistan, Muhammad Hayat Kakar said that the buses were purchased from a Chinese company through an open tender. The government has already paid Rs. 810 million to the company. The shipment of the buses from China is on its way and is expected to arrive in Quetta within the next 15 days.
According to reports, out of the 21 new buses, four pink buses will be reserved for women. These buses will run under a public-private partnership. Seventeen of the buses will operate in Quetta and the rest in Turbat.
Currently, eight green buses are already running in Quetta from Balochistan University to Buleli. The transport department has also sent a proposal to the provincial government to expand the green bus service to other areas, including Brewery, Nawakilli, and Hazar Ganji areas of the provincial capital.
