QUETTA: The Home Department of the Government of Balochistan has officially recommended the federal government shutdown 3G and 4G internet services across the province, which is likely to continue till August 31, 2025.
The Balochistan Home Department has sent an official letter to the Federal Ministry of Interior on August 6. The letter said that in view of the exceptional law and order situation across Balochistan, it is imperative to keep these services shut down so that any possible untoward incident can be avoided. This letter has also been sent to the Federal Home Secretary, Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation, senior police officials, provincial chief secretary, commissioners of all divisions and deputy commissioners of districts, including other relevant officers, so that immediate steps can be taken.

The Home Department has clarified that this decision has been taken in view of the serious security situation prevailing in the province, and its aim is to ensure the safety of citizens. On the other hand, Citizens, students, business people and journalists have expressed serious concern over the internet shutdown. They say that the shutdown of these services without any alternative arrangement or clear time frame is causing severe hardship to the public.
