Pink buses for women to hit Quetta roads soon

QUETTA: In a move to enhance public transportation in the city, especially for women, the Balochistan Transport Secretary has traveled abroad to oversee the purchase of new buses under the government’s Pink and Green Bus initiative.

The Balochistan government had announced the addition of four new Green Buses for the general public and four Pink Buses specifically for female passengers in the previous fiscal year. However, despite the passage of a year, the project had seen little progress — until now.

According to officials from the Transport Department, the provincial transport secretary is currently abroad to finalize the procurement of the buses. Authorities express optimism that the new fleet will arrive in Quetta within a month.

Currently, eight Green Buses operate across Quetta, transporting approximately 8,000 passengers daily. The addition of more buses is expected to ease congestion, reduce wait times, and improve the overall commuting experience for both men and women in the city.

The introduction of Pink Buses is particularly aimed at addressing the travel challenges faced by women in Quetta and is seen as a step toward safer and more inclusive public transport in the region.
