ISLAMABAD: Tremors of a 4.7 magnitude earthquake were felt in Balochistan’s Barkhan district and surrounding areas.
According to the seismic monitoring center, the earthquake originated 26 kilometers north of Barkhan at a depth of 30 kilometers on the Richter scale.
Following the tremors, panic spread throughout the region as people recited the Kalma Tayyaba and rushed out of their homes. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage have been reported.
It is worth noting that mild earthquakes have been occurring in various parts of the province over the past several months.
A few weeks ago, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck Musakhel, causing over a hundred houses to collapse and leaving several people injured.
The repeated seismic activity continues to create a sense of fear and anxiety among residents.
Balochistan lies in a seismically active zone, primarily due to the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Over the past decade, the region has experienced several moderate to powerful earthquakes.
One of the most devastating incidents occurred in 2013 when a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Awaran district, resulting in over 800 fatalities and widespread destruction.
