QUETTA: Ghafoor Jan Kako, a beloved Kandahari comedian renowned for his witty Pashto performances and incisive social commentary, has passed away in Balochistan, Pakistan, local sources confirmed on Wednesday.
Afghanistan-based news channel Amu TV quoted his family members as saying that Kako had been battling illness and financial hardship in recent months. He died on Tuesday.
Famous for his signature Kandahari accent and down-to-earth delivery, Kako earned a devoted following across southern Afghanistan and Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. His comedy skillfully addressed complex social issues, blending humor with thoughtful critique to engage and entertain.
Over the years, Kako became a cultural icon in Kandahar, using laughter as a powerful tool of resilience in a region marked by decades of conflict and adversity.
