ISLAMABAD: The appointment of the permanent Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court has been announced.
Justice Rozi Khan Bareech will take charge as the permanent Chief Justice of Balochistan. According to sources, the names of permanent Chief Justices for high courts across the country, including Balochistan, have been finalized.
A meeting of the Judicial Commission, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, was held to consider appointments for permanent Chief Justices of the Sindh, Balochistan, Peshawar, and Islamabad High Courts.
The commission reviewed the names of the three most senior judges from each high court.
As per the decisions made, Justice Sarfraz Dogar has been approved for the Islamabad High Court, Justice Junaid Ghaffar for the Sindh High Court, Justice Rozi Khan Bareech for the Balochistan High Court, and Justice Atiq Shah for the Peshawar High Court.
It is important to note that the Judicial Commission has 13 permanent members, but the number increases to 16 when appointing a Chief Justice of a High Court. A majority of at least 9 members is required for the appointment to be confirmed.
The Judicial Commission includes the Chief Justice of Pakistan, four Supreme Court judges, the Attorney General, two government representatives, and two members from the opposition.
In this meeting, the Pakistan Bar Council was represented by Ahsan Bhoon, while Roshan Khursheed Bharucha attended as the nominee of the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Additionally, the provincial law minister, a representative of the High Court Bar, and a former High Court judge also took part in the session for appointing the provincial Chief Justices.
