Women’s football tournament kicks off first time in Balochistan

QUETTA: Women’s sports in Balochistan have made history by hosting its first-ever women’s football tournament. The event, which began this week in Quetta, is being hailed as a milestone for gender equality, youth empowerment, and the positive change of the province’s image.

The tournament, organized under the patronage of the Balochistan Sports Board in collaboration with local NGOs and educational institutions, has brought together teams from across the province from Gwadar to Zhob. 

This vibrant sporting event is not just about football; it’s about breaking societal taboos, redefining traditions, and giving young Baloch girls a platform to shine.

Furthermore, Balochistan has been known for its rich cultural heritage, strategic importance, and resilient people. Now, it is making headlines for championing women’s empowerment and inclusion through sports. 

The tournament is being held at Ayub Stadium, where thousands gathered to support the participating teams in a show of unity, pride, and progressive change.

In this sense, Parents, teachers, and local leaders were seen cheering from the stands a rare and heartwarming sight in a region where girls’ participation in sports was once unthinkable. 

The tournament has received support from various youth organizations and human rights groups, who have praised the initiative as a bold and hopeful step forward.

Moreover, local player Nadia Rehman, who captains the Turbat team, expressed her excitement: 

“This is a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to represent my town in football, and now I can. I feel proud to wear this jersey.”
