ISLAMABAD: Senator Sherry Rehman has said that the ceasefire between Pakistan and India should not be considered peace or stability.
Senator Sherry Rehman, a member of the diplomatic delegation formed to highlight Pakistan’s stance against Indian aggression to the world, said that the ceasefire between Pakistan and India is very fragile and can break at any time.
While speaking during a press conference of the Pakistani diplomatic delegation in Washington, Senator Sherry Rehman said that the recent 87-hour war was not a real event but just a trailer, which was a manifestation of Pakistan’s coordinated response.
She blamed the Indian media for promoting war sentiments by limiting the peace narrative. The main Indian TV channels are making provocative claims like the occupation of Lahore, the occupation of Karachi port and the statements about Pakistan being wiped off the map are open provocations. Such narratives thwart informal diplomatic efforts and promote hatred.
She said that after the war, the Indian leadership has trapped itself in dangerous promises that it cannot fulfill.
Senator Sherry Rehman said that the tension in South Asia is more dangerous. India has presented the war as a happy one. The result of any mistake between two nuclear countries can be immediate destruction for millions of people. A nuclear conflict in a dense and sensitive region like South Asia would be uncontrollable.
He said that Pakistan has the full legal right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. India violated the laws of war by targeting civilian areas. We abide by the law, regulations and international norms. The same is expected from India. Pakistan’s retaliation was limited to military targets and was completely legal.

A member of the Pakistani diplomatic delegation said that US intervention helped bring the crisis under control, for which we are grateful to the US President and the Secretary of State. However, the ceasefire should not be considered peace or stability. It is extremely fragile and can break down at any time. If there is no meaningful and principled negotiation process, this trailer could soon turn into a global tragedy.
