Audit reveals mismanagement in Balochistan Education department

QUETTA: A special five-year audit report presented in the Balochistan Assembly has revealed massive financial irregularities amounting to over Rs 6.4 billion in the accounts of the Directors of Schools between 2017 and 2022.

According to the report, around 9 million textbooks were never distributed to students. Payments totaling Rs 2.59 billion were made for book printing without proper approvals.

The audit team was not provided with records worth Rs 1.11 billion. Unregulated procurement practices resulted in a loss of Rs 1.83 billion.

Additionally, Rs 426.6 million allocated for the EMIS (Education Management Information System) project remained unused due to delays.

The audit also revealed the hiring of 366 staff members beyond the approved positions. The findings have been referred to the standing committee for further investigation.
