7th Muharram procession ends peacefully in Quetta

QUETTA : The 7th Muharram-ul-Haram procession of alam, tazia, and Zuljanah was taken out in Quetta on Tuesday and concluded peacefully at Imambargah Nasir-ul-Aza after traversing its designated routes.

The main mourning procession commenced from Imambargah Kalan Hazara and wound its way through Prince Road, Art School Road, Archer Road, Liaquat Bazaar, Junction Chowk, and Mekangi Road before reaching its final destination. Throughout the journey, participants engaged in traditional mourning rituals, including chest-beating (matam) and recitation of elegies (noha khwani), expressing profound grief and reverence for the martyrs of Karbala.

Along the route, numerous volunteer groups set up stalls offering water, sherbet, juice, and lassi to participants as part of customary service arrangements, reflecting the spirit of community solidarity.

Authorities implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure the peaceful conduct of the procession. Roads along the route were sealed, while shops and commercial centers remained closed. The entire route was placed under CCTV surveillance to facilitate crowd management and monitor any untoward activity.

As part of the security protocol, mobile phone services in the city were suspended for 12 hours, and a ban on pillion riding under Section 144 remained in force throughout Quetta. Police and other law enforcement agencies maintained strict vigilance across the city.

The procession concluded without any incident, officials confirmed, attributing the peaceful conduct to meticulous planning and coordination between organizers and security forces.
