ISLAMABAD: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck parts of northern Pakistan on Saturday, sending tremors across Islamabad and several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials said. No casualties or damage were reported.
Residents in Islamabad, Peshawar, Swat, and nearby districts felt the quake and rushed out of homes and offices in panic.
The seismic monitoring center said the earthquake measured 5.5 in magnitude and originated at a depth of 199 kilometers.
It said the epicenter lay in the Hindu Kush mountain region, a known seismic zone whose tremors often reach northern Pakistan.
Bilal Ahmed Faizi, a spokesperson for Rescue 1122 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said emergency control rooms had received no reports of injuries or losses so far.
Authorities urged the public to remain calm and contact the Rescue 1122 helpline in case of any emergency to ensure a swift response.
