ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department has issued an important weather forecast, predicting the arrival of a new western weather system that is expected to affect the upper parts of the country starting today.
This system is likely to bring widespread rain, windstorms, and snowfall in mountainous regions over the next 24 hours.
The department stated that the fresh spell of rainfall will initially enter northern and upper regions, gradually impacting several cities. The heavy rains accompanied by strong winds are expected in areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.
In this regard, the forecast further indicates that the weather system will extend its influence to major urban centers. So far, rain is expected tomorrow in Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Sialkot. Urban administrations have been alerted to prepare for potential challenges such as water accumulation and traffic disruptions.
In addition to rainfall, snowfall is also predicted in the upper mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Experts believe that this snowfall may lead to a noticeable drop in temperature, particularly in higher altitudes, while also enhancing water reserves in these regions.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also issued an advisory, confirming that the spell of heavy rain is likely to continue intermittently until April 17.
Meanwhile, the incoming weather system is expected to bring both relief and challenges, with authorities emphasizing preparedness and public awareness to ensure safety during this period of changing weather conditions.
