Trump Credits PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal for US-Iran Ceasefire

ISLAMABAD: A decision to halt military action against Iran and agree to a two-week ceasefire was made by the US President Donald Trump following a request from Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.

The disclosure was made by President Trump in a message posted on Truth Social.

It was stated that the decision to suspend a planned strike on Iran was taken after talks with Pakistan’s leadership.

The use of “devastating force” against Iran was said to have been deferred. A halt to bombing and military operations was agreed for two weeks.

It was indicated that the pause was conditional. Iran was required to ensure the full, immediate, and secure reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The development was described by President Trump as a “bilateral ceasefire.” It was claimed that US military objectives had already been achieved.

Progress toward a long-term peace agreement with Iran was also reported to be ongoing.

A 10-point proposal was said to have been received from Iran. It was described as a workable basis for negotiations. Agreement was also indicated on several previously disputed issues.

The two-week window was said to provide an opportunity for finalizing a comprehensive deal. The move was described as a potential step toward lasting peace in the Middle East.

Separately, the ceasefire was welcomed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The development was described as a positive step toward regional stability.

It was stated that the truce had been facilitated through Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. Both sides were said to have agreed to pause hostilities for two weeks to allow space for negotiations.

Gratitude was expressed by the prime minister toward the leadership of both the United States and Iran. The decision was described as wise and constructive.

It was further announced that delegations from the United States and Iran had been invited to Islamabad on April 10, 2026. Talks under the “Islamabad dialogue” framework were expected to focus on a permanent peace agreement.
