RIYADH: The United States has approved the potential sale of Joint Direct Attack Munition Extended Range (JDAM-ER) systems worth $5 billion to Saudi Arabia, according to the US State Department.
In addition, the State Department has approved the potential sale of AGT-150 engines worth $750 million to Saudi Arabia.
According to the department, the proposed defence deals would strengthen Saudi Arabia’s ability to address current and future threats. Moreover, the agreements are expected to enhance the kingdom’s defence readiness, meet its operational requirements and further strengthen defence cooperation between Washington and Riyadh.
Meanwhile, the United States has also approved two potential defence deals for Oman and Iraq.
Under one of the agreements, Oman would receive $188 million worth of support and maintenance services for its F-16 fighter aircraft.
Similarly, the US has approved the potential sale of Bell 412EPX helicopters worth $150 million to Iraq.
The proposed deals are subject to the completion of the required US approval and contracting processes.
