Traders, Transporters Warn of Wheel-Jam Strike Across Balochistan

QUETTA: A coalition of Balochistan’s leading business, mining and transport organisations has warned of a province-wide wheel-jam and shutter-down strike if the government fails to address its demands, including compensation for losses incurred after dozens of trucks were torched on highways across the province.

Speaking at a joint press conference, representatives of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI), the Transport Association, the Coal Mines Association, Anjuman-i-Tajran, and the LPG Association strongly condemned the recent attacks on freight vehicles along national highways.

QCCI President Muhammad Ayub Mariani and other business leaders also denounced the recent acid attack on Dr Mahnoor, expressing solidarity with the victim on behalf of the business community.

The representatives said the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan has created widespread fear, financial uncertainty and psychological stress for traders, transporters, mine operators and ordinary citizens. They added that difficulties facing the mining sector and border trade continue to intensify.
