Shahid Afridi welcomes accountability process of Faiz Hameed, calls for action against all who harmed the country

KARACHI: The Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has welcomed the accountability of former Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI), Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed, and stressed that anyone who has caused harm to the country should be held accountable without discrimination.

In this regard, Afridi said that although matters of accountability were not his domain, he felt encouraged by the ongoing process.

“This is not something for me to decide, but I am pleased to see that accountability is taking place, including that of Faiz Hameed and other officers,” he said.

In this sense, Afridi termed it a positive development that the Pakistan Army had initiated the accountability process from within its own ranks.

He focused on the fact that accountability should be comprehensive and fair. “It is a welcome step that the Pakistan Army has started accountability internally.

Now, whoever has damaged the country should also be brought to justice,” he added.

Afridi said he had great respect for the armed forces. “The army belongs to me, and Alhamdulillah, I am proud of the Pakistan Army,” he stated, adopting a conciliatory and respectful tone. Furthermore, Afridi welcomed the addition of two new franchises in the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

He said the expansion would create more opportunities for young and emerging players. “The inclusion of two more teams in the PSL is a good decision.

He further described the PSL as a strong national brand, noting that the league’s roadshows reflected its growing popularity. “The PSL is our own brand, and the roadshows are clear evidence of how popular it has become among fans,” Afridi remarked.

Meanwhile, Afridi cautioned against further experimentation in team selection ahead of major international events. He said Pakistan should now finalize its squad for the upcoming World Cup. “There is no need for more experiments in the Pakistan team. We should finalize the team for the World Cup now.
