QUETTA: Security forces killed several militants linked to India-backed proxies in an operation on the outskirts of Quetta, officials said Wednesday.
The operation, conducted in the Aghbarg, came a day after militants from the group Fitna al-Khawarij attacked a Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in the provincial capital. Authorities said multiple militant casualties were reported.
Yesterday, a suicide bomber and gunmen stormed the FC compound, killing at least three people before security forces repelled the assault, killing all the attackers.
According to security sources, the assault began when a Suzuki pickup with explosives rammed into the compound corner. Moments later, five militants of the Indian proxy, disguised in FC uniforms, attempted to storm the facility. Security forces immediately engaged them, killing all of the attackers before they could enter.
Two FC personnel sustained injuries in the exchange of fire. Authorities said the militants belonged to Fitna al-Khawarij, a proxy network backed by India.
Law enforcement and rescue teams rushed to the scene, shifting the dead and injured to local hospitals, where a state of emergency were declared. Footage from the site showed smoke billowing over the area, while nearby buildings suffered shattered windows from the blast impact.
