LAHORE: A suspected robber was killed during an alleged encounter with police in the Gajumata area late Sunday night, just a day after he and his accomplices allegedly looted Rs 190 million from a house in the Defense neighborhood.
According to police officials, the slain suspect has been identified as Zaza Pathan. He was wanted in connection with the armed robbery that took place in the upscale Defense area during Sehri hours a day earlier, where a family was held up and cash and valuables worth over Rs 190 million were stolen.
Police stated that the Kahna police team, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Amir Shahzad, had traced the vehicle used in the robbery with the help of Safe City cameras. When the suspicious vehicle was signaled to stop near Gajumata, the occupants opened fire on the police party.
In the retaliatory action by the police, one robber was killed, while his three accomplices managed to escape from the scene under the cover of darkness. Police have seized the suspect’s vehicle for further investigation.
A heavy contingent of law enforcers reached the spot after the incident. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana and DIG Operations Lahore Muhammad Faisal Kamran also visited the site to review the situation.
The body of the slain robber has been shifted to the morgue for autopsy and further legal formalities. Police officials have launched a search operation in the surrounding area to apprehend the fleeing suspects. Authorities have expressed confidence that the absconding accused will be arrested soon.
