Islamabad: Pakistan has decided to reopen the Badini border crossing with Afghanistan and has formally contacted the Taliban government in Kabul regarding the matter.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan is fully prepared to open the border and has already sent a letter to Afghan authorities on October 3.
The decision was made on September 29 during a meeting of the inter-ministerial committee.
Officials confirmed that all arrangements on Pakistan’s side have been completed, and the country is now awaiting Afghanistan’s response.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will be deployed at the crossing point once it becomes operational.
The Foreign Office stated that reopening the Badini border will significantly enhance bilateral trade and connectivity between Pakistan and Afghanistan, strengthening economic cooperation in the border regions.
The Badini border crossing, located in Balochistan’s Qila Saifullah district, serves as one of the key transit routes connecting Pakistan’s southwestern region with Afghanistan’s Paktia province.
The crossing is strategically important as it provides an alternative trade route to the more congested Chaman and Torkham borders.
It was initially opened for limited trade and movement in 2020 to facilitate cross-border commerce and humanitarian exchanges.
However, due to changing security conditions, administrative challenges, and evolving political relations between Islamabad and Kabul, the Badini border has been closed intermittently over the years.
Local traders and residents on both sides have repeatedly urged authorities to keep the border open to support livelihoods and regional trade.
The recent decision to reopen it reflects Pakistan’s broader strategy to improve economic engagement with Afghanistan and promote stability in border areas through enhanced trade and regulated movement.
