Quetta authorities push to fix water supply from Wali Tangi Dam

ommissioner of Quetta Division has ordered immediate action to repair and modernise the water supply system from the Wali Tangi Dam

QUETTA: The Commissioner of Quetta Division has ordered immediate action to repair and modernise the water supply system from the Wali Tangi Dam to ensure a consistent flow of water to local residents.

The directive was issued by Commissioner Shahzeb Khan Kakar during a high-level meeting attended by deputy commissioners, military engineers, and officers from the irrigation and security departments. The meeting focused on the urgent need to fix water channels and upgrade distribution points that have been badly damaged by recent floods.

Officials noted that the combined impact of flood damage and a lack of rainfall has severely disrupted the water supply to the population. Commissioner Kakar instructed the relevant departments to begin immediate repairs on the water channels and to modernise the distribution infrastructure to prevent further disruptions.

Plans discussed included building new distribution channels, improving the Arak headworks, and installing modern measurement systems at distribution points to better manage the water supply. The commissioner directed all departments to work together under a unified strategy to resolve the public’s water problems promptly.

Quetta citizens waste 50 million gallons of clean water daily on activities like vegetable cultivation and car washing. A comprehensive plan to curb this waste and prevent illegal tube wells is being finalized for the Chief Minister’s approval.
