MOSCOW : Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions involving Iran, warning that a prolonged conflict could have devastating consequences for the global economy and international security. He also voiced hope for an early end to the ongoing war.
Speaking to reporters, Putin stated that if the situation in the Middle East, particularly in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, deteriorates further, “the whole world will have to pay the price.”
The Russian leader described the Iranian crisis as having taken on a “very complex nature,” placing Moscow in a difficult diplomatic position. He noted that Russia maintains close relations with Iran alongside significant political and economic ties with Gulf countries.
“The growing tension in the region has become a sensitive issue for us,” Putin said, warning that a protracted war would not only impact the Middle East but could also have profound effects on global energy markets and international stability.
Putin reaffirmed Russia’s support for reducing regional tensions and finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
In a separate development, Russia has agreed to a ceasefire with Ukraine, mediated by the United States, a move that is being hailed as a breakthrough.
