PTI accepts govt proposal to form Committee on Imran Khan’s Jail Facilities

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has agreed to a government proposal aimed at reviewing the jail facilities provided to the party’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, according to sources familiar with the development.

The offer, originally made by Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah, includes the formation of a special committee tasked with assessing the conditions and amenities available to Imran Khan in prison. Sources say PTI’s leadership approved the proposal after detailed discussions during a joint parliamentary party meeting, where a majority of members supported moving forward with the plan.

According to party insiders, instructions have been issued to include PTI lawyers, senators and members of the National Assembly in the proposed committee. The decision marks a rare moment of cooperation between the government and the opposition amid ongoing political tensions.

Rana Sanaullah formally extended the proposal a day earlier, offering to constitute a committee to ensure transparency regarding prison conditions. PTI’s leadership has now accepted the offer and expressed willingness to participate fully in the committee’s work.

Sources further indicate that PTI has agreed that the committee will be chaired by Rana Sanaullah himself. PTI representatives and legal advisers will accompany the committee during visits to the jail, where they will directly review the facilities provided to the former prime minister.

PTI officials maintain that the party’s primary objective is to obtain a clear and accurate picture of the treatment and conditions Imran Khan is receiving in custody. According to party sources, PTI wants all available facilities to be presented transparently so that any misunderstandings or concerns can be addressed through proper channels.

The development is being viewed as a step toward reducing political friction, at least on the issue of prison conditions for the former premier. However, analysts note that broader political disagreements between the government and PTI remain unresolved.

The committee is expected to begin its work soon after formal notification is issued.
