PPP begins grassroots campaign for Quetta LG polls

PPP Confident of Victory as It Launches Quetta Local Body Election Campaign

QUETTA: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders declared on Wednesday that holding local government LG polls in Quetta is essential for solving citizens’ grassroots issues, as the party formally launched its campaign for the upcoming elections.

Speaking at a ceremony to issue party tickets for Zarghun Town constituencies PB-41, PB-42, and PB-43, senior leaders vowed the PPP would contest fully and emerge victorious. Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and PPP Zarghun Town Committee head, Mir Liaquat Lehri, alongside PPP Balochistan General Secretary Rabbani Khan Kakar and former Senator Lala Rozi Khan Kakar, distributed tickets to candidates contesting across various Union Councils and wards.

The leaders, including Haji Naseebullah Achakzai, Dr. Obaid Kakar, and Engineer Ehsan Khilji, emphasized that local bodies are the backbone of democracy. They argued that empowered local governments would directly address the day-to-day problems faced by residents at their doorsteps.

Confident of a sweep, the leaders predicted the party would secure the positions of Quetta’s mayor and deputy mayor. They called on all party workers to initiate an intensive door-to-door campaign, urging them to maintain close contact with voters to ensure the success of PPP candidates across all wards in the city.

Meanwhile three people were injured in two separate gas leakage explosions in different areas of the provincial capital Quetta, police said on Wednesday.

The first incident occurred near a home on Nawan Kali Abdul Khaliq Road. A cylinder leak caused an explosion and fire, leaving one person burned.

The second explosion happened in Alamo Police Colony, also due to a gas leak. Two people, a father and son, suffered burn injuries.

All three injured were taken to a burn unit for treatment. Doctors said their condition is stable and out of danger.

Police collected evidence from both sites and have launched further investigations.
