QUETTA: Nawab Salman Khan Khilji, Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) Balochistan, has lashed out at the party’s provincial leadership, accusing it of complete inactivity.
He warned that genuine party workers would no longer tolerate the imposition of handpicked individuals and urged the party to immediately conduct intra-party elections in the province.
Addressing a press conference at the Quetta Press Club, alongside Mir Zaman Lehri, Syed Zaher Agha, Hassan Khan, Baqar Khan Ghilzai, Afnan Ahmed Kakar, and Sardar Siddique Hotak, Khilji declared that “seasonal opportunists” currently rule the province. He said these individuals have no connection with the people and are more interested in looting than serving the public.
Recalling the events of October 12, 1999, Khilji noted that General Pervez Musharraf had overthrown the elected government of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. He said that although several senior PMLN leaders defected during Musharraf’s eight-year rule, PMLN workers and leaders in Balochistan remained loyal to Nawaz Sharif, even during the toughest times.
Khilji reaffirmed that even today, on October 12, 2025, PMLN leaders in Balochistan stand firm with Nawaz Sharif and will not abandon him if a similar event occurs again.
He lamented that the party has forgotten the workers and leaders who made sacrifices on October 12. “Their families now live in poverty, and their children remain unemployed and struggle to survive,” he said.
Khilji accused the current PMLN leadership in Balochistan of pursuing personal interests instead of addressing public concerns. “Workers from Baloch and Pashtun areas come to Quetta with their grievances but leave disappointed,” he said.

Answering a question, he said that “seasonal opportunists” dominate the province’s politics and will switch parties once the government changes. “When workers seek help from ministers, they are told that the ministers bought their positions and must recover their money before addressing public issues,” Khilji added.
